Dr. Seuss's The Cat in the Hat
Marc Shaiman was credited both for the composition of the score and the songs.
Finally, the cd release only includes a couple of musical numbers from the composer.
For unknown reasons would be the great David Newman the author of the score of a really
unfortunate production and that was seeking to exploit the success of the previous movie from
a story of Dr. Seuss: The Grinch. They never got that kind of success, since
the failure turned out to be noisy, the candidacies to the Razzies "Awards" too many (seven nominations
and a "prize"), critics also painful...
The compact disc presents good part of Newman's correct work
and two numbers at the expense of Shaiman and with
Scott Wittman's lyrics: "Fun Fun Fun" and "Clean Up", both performed by Mike Myers. Brilliant the first
one and too brief the second
one (and that can turn out to be similar to moments of his famous "Blame Canada", from the movie South Park).
Shaiman's contribution is short, though tenor of the cinematographic results its not important so much if
Marc finally was not too much involved in the project. As curiosity: the
compact disc includes a mini poster of The Cat ... horror!
