Jackieīs Back (Portrait of a Diva)
False musical and comical documentary
around a hypothetical prima
donna of the song, Jackie Washington
(Jennifer Lewis), created for television and
with some really delirious moments. The
protagonist is supported by a long list of
illustrious celebrities and
not so illustrious that appear in an endless
number of declarations on the life and
scandals of the prima donna (Tim Curry,
Whoopie Goldberg, Tom Arnold, Julie
Hagerty, Bette Midler, Liza Minelly, Dolly
Parton, Chris Rock ...). During this
"documentary" led by Tim Curry, we are
present at many different testimonies, catastrophic
essays, images of file and more than one
controversy.
Marc Shaiman turns out to be credited as
author of the music and arranger for the
musical numbers. As lyricists, Shaiman, Mark Alton
Brown and Jennifer Lewis.
The score is limited, contributing more entity
the good handful of songs that the prima
donna performs, in a notable homage to a
whole era of the black music, with direct references
to the Jacksonīs Five, Aretha
Franklin and other legends of the soul and
the blues. With regard to the score we can
emphasize some brief passages into a jazzy and soul sound, though there shines in
a special way the original work (score and song)
included in the delirious scene of a false
movie ("Coco's Revenge") that the prima
donna once starred, emulating
her heroines Foxy Brown and
Cleopatra Jones.
Some declarations do not have any waste and there
are included some appearances that stand out
on other, as that of David Hyde
Pierce playing the role of a crazy pianist or
that of Tom Arnold as ex-agent of the prima
donna.
There is a
DVD release for this movie and some admirers, but this movie
has not caused any CD release yet, so this work joins the list of his unknown
projets and only can be listened in the
own movie.
